Cet homme est avocat (général, prêtre, Anglais, etc.). That man is a lawyer (a general, a priest, an Englishman, etc.).
Son frère est un avocat (etc.) célèbre. His brother is a celebrated lawyer (etc.).
C'est un Français (un acteur, etc.). It (he) is a Frenchman (an actor etc.).
Lamartine, poète et homme politique, est né à Macon. Lamartine, a poet and politician, was born at Macon.
Cent livres.--Mille mercis. A hundred books.--A thousand thanks.
Quel homme! What a man!
Dix sous la pièce.--Cinq francs la livre (le mètre, etc.). Ten cents a piece.--Five francs a pound (a meter etc.).
Deux fois par jour.--Cinq francs par leçon. Two times a day.--Five francs a (or per) lesson.
Elle est chez elle le jeudi (or) les jeudis. She is at home on Thursday (or) every Thursday.
